The Edwardian Wire Frame Hat: 1901-1906
Millinery Workshop
with
Instructor Chantal Filson
January 13, 2024 - Sold out
January 14, 2024- SECOND CLASS ADDED

Spend a dreary January creating some gorgeous springtime cheer in time for picnic season!
In this live, online workshop students will create an Edwardian hat that can be worn either tilted back halo-style or perched atop the head for a spectacular Edwardian silhouette. Based on an original hat in the teacher's collection dated 1900-1906, the style is 3 dimensionally shaped and flared rather than a simple round platter. It is very lightweight, sits easily on the head and fastens neatly with a hatpin.

Students will structure and shape a frame of millinery wire, covering it with trim and tucked netting, finishing with a bandeau and fitted lining. Period style and trim options will be discussed.

Class fee includes a kit with pattern and millinery supplies (wire, fabrics to line/cover, buckram for bandeau, trim for crown), and a pdf handout with links and info. Students will receive a list of required tools and recommended trims to decorate their hat. All Costume On Master Classes include student orientation, welcome packet and additional help as needed.

The course is recommended for those with some prior millinery experience, but all levels of experience are welcome. Costume On is body-positive, beginner-friendly and a staunch supporter of inclusivity/bipoc/lgbtq/costuming for any gender.
